Pine-Richland student achievements for the week of Oct. 10, 2023

Pine-Richland High School senior Vasile Balouris was named to the Pittsburgh Steelers All-Peer Team. Balouris is one of 11 students from the region selected for going above and beyond to provide mentor-like support to teammates. A two-year football team captain with a history of academic excellence, including a near-perfect SAT score and perfect ACT score, Vasile mentors many teammates while playing football and basketball. He leads the team’s volunteer activities and also serves as a referee for the youth basketball program.

Megan Gallagher was named to Ithaca College’s spring 2023 dean’s list.

Commonwealth University-Lock Haven student Tony Nicassio was recognized as a football student-athlete and Megan Miller was recognized as a women’s soccer student athlete. Student-athletes must maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 upon completion of the academic year to be eligible for the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Scholar-Athlete Award.

Alek Johnson was among more than 200 students whose outstanding academic work was showcased during the 2023 Baldwin Wallace University Ovation Day of Excellence. Johnson presented “A Novel Study Examining Cognitive-Motor Interference After Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction: Feasibility of a Combined Event-Related Potential (ERP) and 3D Motion Capture Study” during the event.
