Pine held its annual Memorial Day Honor Ceremony at 9 a.m. May 26 at the township’s Veterans Plaza.
The ceremony at the corner of Church Road and Route 910 brought the community together in remembrance and gratitude. Township staff, board members, residents and veterans gathered to honor the individuals who gave their lives in service of this country.
The ceremony included heartfelt tributes, the raising of the American flag and a moving rendition of the national anthem by Sydney Kratsas, daughter of Pine Manager Jason Kratsas.
Sydney Kratsas was home for the occasion after wrapping up her freshman year at Waynesburg University.
Four speakers offered powerful reflections on the meaning of Memorial Day: Jason Kratsas, Supervisors Chairman Ryan Colombo, Supervisor Pat Avolio and state Rep. Jeremy Shaffer, R-Pine. Each paid tribute to the bravery and selflessness of the nation’s fallen heroes and underscored the importance of community and remembrance.
“Memorial Day is a solemn reminder that the freedoms we enjoy come at a profound cost,” Colombo said. “Today, we not only remember the heroes who gave their lives in service, but we also renew our commitment to honor them — not just in words but through lasting action in our community.”
As part of Pine’s continued commitment to honoring veterans, the township is developing a permanent Veterans Memorial in Pine Community Park. The memorial is set to open next Memorial Day. It will serve as a lasting tribute, offering a place for reflection, remembrance and community gathering for generations to come.

Those who donate at the bronze, silver, gold or platinum levels will receive a permanent plaque at the memorial. Sponsorship levels range from $250 to $2,000.
