At least two people were injured Monday in a crash involving multiple vehicles on Route 28 near the Highland Park Bridge, officials said.

The crash prompted officials to shut down the southbound lanes of Route 28 between Aspinwall and Fox Chapel, snarling traffic from Etna through Blawnox for more than two hours.

Emergency dispatchers received a report of the crash shortly before 6 p.m., an Allegheny County 911 shift commander said.

Medics took two people with injuries to nearby hospitals, the shift commander said.

Shortly before 6:30 p.m., the southbound lanes of the highway remained closed while crews worked to clear the wreckage.

By 7:30 p.m., all lanes had reopened but traffic backlogs persisted from Fox Chapel to Pittsburgh along Route 28 and the bordering Freeport Road.

No further details were immediately available.

Aspinwall police are investigating the cause of the crash.
