Big Burrito Restaurant Group continues to expand.

The company announced Tuesday it planned to opened a second Alta Via restaurant in McCandless and had another eatery in the works for Lawrenceville.

The first Alta Via, an Italian restaurant, opened in April in O’Hara. The second location will be at 5300 Corporate Drive in McCandless and is expected to open in January 2021. The new Lawrenceville venture will be at 3529 Butler St. and is expected to open in September 2020, according to a news release. Details will be announced at a later date.

“We are thrilled to have the opportunity to offer new, exciting dining options to Pittsburgh,” Big Burrito chef Bill Fuller said in a statement. “We are energized at all levels of the organization to mine our creativity and our pure desire to cook and serve new, intriguing dishes.”

Alta Via in Fox Chapel Plaza has been such a pleasant surprise, Fuller said.

“We are achieving our vision and have received a very favorable response,” he said. “We know that there are many more people who will appreciate our fresh pastas, vegetable dishes, and wood hearth cooking. We are so excited to be working on the second location.”

All pastas at the new Alta Via will be made by hand daily in a dedicated pasta room. The soft-serve gelato selection will grow from two to four daily flavors, the release said.

The dining room will be larger with approximately 140 seats.
