Banff Centre Mountain Film Festival

It’s springtime and baseball is back along with other fun things to do this weekend.

Festival time

The Banff Centre Mountain Film Festival World Tour is Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Byham Theater, Downtown. Stories of “remote journeys, ground-breaking expeditions, and cutting-edge adventures told through the eyes of adventurers, authors, photographers, and filmmakers from around the globe” will come to Pittsburgh. The tour is presented by Venture Outdoors.

Music to your ears

French conductor Emmanuel Krivine makes his Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra debut with Tchaikovsky’s Fifth Symphony with performances Friday, Saturday and Sunday. A pre-concert talk will be led by associate conductor Earl Lee.

Play ball

This is the first weekend of baseball for the 2019 season at PNC Park on the North Side. The Pirates host the Cincinnati Reds on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. On Friday, the first 20,000 fans receive a Steve Blass T-shirt. Sunday is the first kids’ day of the season.

Gather together

The Catholic Men’s Fellowship of Pittsburgh brings the 13th annual Gathering of Catholic Men on Saturday at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall in Oakland. The theme is Encounter Mercy and speakers include Bishop David A. Zubik, Steve Pokorny, Sean O’Hare, Jimmy Mitchell, Kris Frank and Bob Rice.

A doll’s house

This is the final weekend to catch, “A Doll’s House, Part 2” at the O’Reilly Theater, Pittsburgh Public Theater’s home, Downtown. The theater welcomed back Ted Pappas to direct this show. Pappas lead the theater for 18 years before retiring in the fall. The play is described as laugh-out-loud funny, but also takes the audience through the complexities of marriage, law and parenthood.
