Allegheny County Controller Chelsa Wagner arraigned on felonies in Detroit

Allegheny County Controller Chelsa Wagner and her husband were arraigned Monday afternoon in Detroit on charges related to an altercation with police at a hotel earlier this month.

After the brief hearing, Wayne County Judge Ronald Giles set a $5,000 personal bond with no travel restrictions for each defendant, Wayne County Assistant Prosecutor Maria Miller said.

Both pleaded not guilty.

Wagner, 41, of Pittsburgh’s Point Breeze neighborhood, faces two felony counts of resisting and obstructing the police and a misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct.

Her husband, Khari Mosley, 42, is charged with two misdemeanor counts of disorderly conduct and disturbing the peace.

They turned themselves in to the Detroit Detention Center to be arraigned. A live video feed was broadcast before a magistrate in Wayne County’s 36th District Court shortly after 1 p.m.

Both Detroit attorney Charles Longstreet and Philadelphia attorney Tom Fitzpatrick represented the couple in court on Monday. The defense attorneys could not immediately be reached for comment.

The couple was charged last week in connection to a March 6 incident at the Westin Book Cadillac Hotel. Wagner and Mosley were staying at the hotel while visiting the city on a belated Valentine’s Day trip.

Police say they detained Mosley after he caused a disturbance and arrested Wagner after she assaulted a police officer.

Wagner has told the Tribune-Review that police mischaracterized the incident and she described officers as the aggressors.

If convicted, Wagner could face removal from office. She is up for re-election this year.

Both Wagner and Mosley are scheduled to return to Detroit for court hearings next Monday.
