Allegheny County businesses or residents may be caught up in a theft case involving the owner of a Berks County company that administered health care savings accounts, Allegheny County District Attorney’s office spokesman Mike Manko said Wednesday.

Prosecutors in both counties are investigating Alternative Benefit Systems and its owner Amy McLaine.

The Berks County-based company administered flexible spending accounts and McLaine is facing theft charges stemming from checks Alternative Benefit Systems issued to a Berks County company in June, according to a criminal complaint.

The case against McLaine, 47, of Fleetwood, Pa., is in Berks County court.

There is at least one and maybe more potential victims of Alternative Business Systems in Allegheny County, Manko said.

He wouldn’t provide further details, but the DA’s office is asking people who had dealings with the company to call 412-388-5300.
