Allegheny County Health Department officials reported 146 new covid-19 cases Saturday and one new death.
The death total now stands at 222.
The latest numbers reflect 1,631 tests spanning from July 7 to July 24 — a nearly 9% infection rate of those who were tested.
To date, Allegheny County has administered more than 100,000 tests.
Of the new cases, 145 are confirmed and one is considered probable.
Allegheny County now has seen 7,161 cases of covid-19 since the first ones were reported March 14, eight days after the virus was first reported in Pennsylvania.
The county also reported four new hospitalizations.
In all, 577 patients who tested positive for the virus have had to be hospitalized, representing just over 8% of the county’s cases.
Twenty-four of the past 26 days have yielded triple-digit coronavirus cases for Allegheny County. The only exceptions were July 13 and July 22, when 71 cases and 96 were reported, respectively.
However, on July 14, the county reported 331 cases — shattering the previous single-day record by nearly 100 cases.
County officials at the time blamed a lag in reporting on the drastically different numbers.
To put the recent numbers in perspective, during this 26-day period (since June 30), Allegheny County has amassed 4,510 positive cases, or nearly 63% of all recorded cases in the county.
People who make up the latest round of new cases range in age from 2 to 99 years old, according to county data. The median age is 41.
Females make up 54% of the cases.
