Allegheny County Health Department officials reported 218 new covid-19 cases on Monday, one new death and four new hospitalizations.

The new death reported Monday brings the toll to 188.

This is the second time the daily report has surpassed 200 cases. It ends a trend of declining daily totals since Thursday, when 233 cases were reported, which marked the highest daily total during the pandemic.

Allegheny County now has seen 3,775 cases of covid-19 since the first were reported March 14.

In the newest cases, ages ranged from 9 months to 95 years old with the median age being 31. The positive rate remains above 10% for the month, officials said.

Eleven percent of the county’s covid-19 cases — 432 — are among health care workers, county officials said.

In all, 416 patients who tested positive for the virus have had to be hospitalized, representing 11% of the county’s cases. The test results span from June 24 through July 5, officials said.

Following Thursday’s 233 new cases, county officials ordered the end of on-site service at bars and restaurants, allowing takeout and delivery to continue; casinos were also closed. That decision came days after bars and restaurants had been ordered to cease on-site alcohol consumption.

During a press conference Monday, Gov. Tom Wolf said he was concerned by the Allegheny County numbers.

“We have seen breakouts in certain areas. Allegheny County is the big area of concern at this point,” Wolf said. “We’re working closely with them.”
