Allegheny County dropped below 100 new covid-19 cases for the first time in nine days but saw a rise in both deaths and hospitalizations.

The county reported 96 new cases, eight deaths and 16 hospitalizations on Wednesday, with the eight deaths the highest recorded since mid-May.

The new cases bring the county’s total to 6,670, with 6,471 confirmed and 199 probable. Of the new results, which stem from tests taken July 7-21, ages range from 1 to 92 years old with a median age of 37.

The eight deaths reported Wednesday stem from July 8 to July 19 and range in age from 78 to 96 years old, with a median age of 81.

Pennsylvania on Tuesday reported 211 deaths in Allegheny County, while the county listed 209. On Wednesday, the county reported 217 while the state numbers are at 214. These discrepancies have existed for most of the pandemic as the state and county reports pull from different sources.

The 16 hospitalizations bring the county’s total to 536.

The 25-49 age bracket has seen the highest percentage of cases at 41%, followed by 50-64 (19%), 19-24 (17%), 65+ (17%), 13-18 (3%), 5-12 (2%) and 0-4 (1%).
