Allegheny County reports just 27 new coronavirus cases

Allegheny County on Wednesday reported its lowest number of new coronavirus cases in almost two months.

Just 27 positive cases were added in the latest data released by the Allegheny County Health Department, the lowest since 19 were reported on June 23. The new cases bring the county’s total to 9,576 since the first cases were recorded in March.

The county added six deaths, bringing that total to 297, and 24 hospitalizations, which brings that to 911 since March. The newly reported deaths range from Aug. 3-18, with four people in their 80s, one in the 90s and one in the 100s. All four were linked to long-term care facilities.

The new cases stem from 875 test results, with the 27 positive cases all confirmed. The positive tests range from July 31 to Aug. 18, with all but two from the last week. The cases range in age from 1 to 80 years old with a median age of 33.

According to the Pennsylvania Department of Health, there are 94 people from Allegheny County hospitalized with covid-19 and 21 patients on ventilators.

The county has added 1,482 cases in August, compared to 5,334 in July, 849 in June, 622 in May, 964 in April and 325 in March. The seven-day average dropped to 71, the lowest since June 29’s seven-day average of 62.
