Allegheny County sheriff’s deputies were out in force Monday morning on Forbes Avenue between the Allegheny County Courthouse and the City-County Building.

They stopped passing motorists, asking them to roll down their windows to accept a free poinsettia.

It’s something the office has done that last four or five years to spread goodwill during the holiday season, according to Lt. Conor Mullen.

They distributed 150 of the flowers on Thursday and on Monday expected to hand out another 300 flowers around the courthouse and in Market Square.

The flowers are donated by Bob’s Market/Tedesco’s Flowers in Pittsburgh’s Strip District and they’re handed out to anyone who wants them.

Few passersby turned down the potted poinsettias, although some appeared confused when Deputy Jason Tarap extended Christmas greetings.
