Bassists unite!
Bass guitar slappers, luthiers and students alike will congregate Sunday for the sixth annual Pittsburgh Bass Day.
The event is open to the general public for $25, which gets people in the doors at Penn Hebron Garden Club, 237 Jefferson Road, access to bass clinics and chances to win gear. Teens under 18 get in free but must pay $25 to participate in raffles.
The event runs from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the door.
Gordon Gary, the event’s coordinator, said around 60 people came last year and he’s expecting more to come this year. He started the event six years ago to get the area’s bassists all in one room to learn from one another and show off skills and gear.
The event also includes clinics led by Vince Gorman and a fretless bass session taught by Rick Link, a Washington luthier.
The event will also feature performances by Jeff Mangone, an adjunct professor of music at Duquesne University, a duo by bassists Tony Grey and Paul Thompson, and a contra duo by Carnegie Mellon University graduates Riley Zimmerman and Emily Tarantino.
