Emergency crews responding to an overnight fire in Duquesne found thick smoke filling a three-story apartment building, police said.

The fire happened at 30 Oakmont Avenue, in a second-floor unit. No injuries were reported.

Crews responded at about 3 a.m. and found heavy smoke throughout the second and third floors of the building.

Members of 15 families were evacuated.

Firefighters were able to extinguish flames inside a utility closet.

“The fire had burned into the walls and traveled to the apartment directly above causing heavy smoke on the third floor,” according to a Duquesne police Facebook post.

Cause of the fire was not yet clear.

The person living inside the unit where the fire started was unable to return to the apartment. All other residents were able to return to their apartments.
