Two 5-year-olds were hospitalized Wednesday, and Allegheny County police are investigating why after the Wilkinsburg home they were found inside tested negative for carbon monoxide.
Wilkinsburg police and Pittsburgh firefighters were called at 7:35 a.m. to the home in the 1100 block of Franklin Avenue for suspected carbon monoxide poisoning. Two 5-year-olds, a boy and a girl, were unresponsive, and taken to the hospital.
The boy is in critical condition, and the girl is in stable condition, and there were no visible signs of trauma, according to county police Lt. Venerando Costa.
Police didn’t say who else was in the home.
Pittsburgh firefighters checked for carbon monoxide exposure, but those tests were negative, Costa said.
Wilkinsburg police asked for county police to investigate, and detectives, medical professionals and the Allegheny County Crime Lab are seeking information to find out what happened to the children, Costa said.
