A Baltimore man believed to have a gun is accused of biting two Pittsburgh police officers as they tried to arrest him early Tuesday morning at the Downtown Amtrak Station, according to a criminal complaint filed against him.
Police were called at 2:43 a.m. to the Liberty Avenue station for an irate man who Amtrak employees thought to be armed with a gun.
Officers asked Deandre McCrary, 39, to leave the station. He struggled and fought with police. Officers tried twice to stun him with a Taser but could not subdue him, according to the complaint.
McCrary bit two police officers, according to the complaint. One of the cops punched McCrary three times in the face to get him to stop biting.
The police were treated and released from UPMC Mercy, according to public safety spokesman Chris Togneri.
The dispute started when McCrary told an Amtrak employee he needed a cigarette on the train platform. He became irate, went to the lobby of the station and punched the window at the ticket counter, according to the complaint.
McCrary was thought to be armed because of the way he was pulling at his waistband an Amtrak employee told police, according to the complaint. No gun was found.
McCrary is facing two counts of aggravated assault and single charges of resisting arrest and defiant trespass, according to the complaint.
