A Black Lives Matter protest has been scheduled along William Penn Highway in Monroeville.

According to a photo of a flyer with details about the protest, it will occur from 1 to 6 p.m. Tuesday “in the streets between Chick-fil-A and Chipotle.”

“Bring signs and your voice! It’s our weapon. We need to keep fighting,” it reads. The photograph of the flyer appears to be incomplete, having cut off the bottom portion. The person who took the photo could not be reached.

Monroeville police Chief Doug Cole said he is aware of the event.

“All I can say is we are aware of a flier that was posted on social media and that we’re prepared,” he said.

Cole declined to comment further.

Demonstrations across the country and world started more than a week ago after George Floyd, a 46-year-old black man, was killed by a white Minneapolis police officer May 25. Protesters have taken to the streets in Pittsburgh and surrounding communities for the last 10 days.
