Most likely one of the few events happening Saturday is “Recipe for Hope.”

The coronavirus pandemic has caused most regional events to be canceled or postponed.

“I am being completely cautious about it,” said event founder Bonny Diver, traffic reporter for iHeart Radio. “We have taken all of the precautions. Most of the people who bought tickets are coming.”

The evening begins at 7:30 p.m. at the Mayernick Center in Avonworth Community Park. It helps raise money for Hair Peace Charities, an organization that helps women and girls in Western Pennsylvania who need money to buy a wig because they’ve lost their hair during cancer treatments.

Twenty local celebrities and chefs prepare their favorite dishes. Diver said she expects about 140 people. She said two tickets will support one survivor and help her get a wig.

Diver said the event will have hand sanitizer available for general use.

“We have been planning for this event for a year so there is no turning back or no canceling it,” she said. “I know we won’t have as big attendance as in past years.”

Diver started the charity after surviving breast cancer. Some insurance companies don’t cover the cost of wigs. She has helped 400 women find a salon where they can get a fashionable wig that fits properly.
