An 11-year-old Pittsburgh boy who was killed in a multi-vehicle crash along the Parkway East — Interstate 376 — Thursday morning has been identified.

Jaiden Childs, 11, was pronounced dead at a hospital after the vehicle he was a passenger in was stuck by a truck shortly before 6:30 a.m., the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office reported.

The crash shut down all eastbound lanes on the Parkway East between the Monroeville and the Edgewood/Swissvale exit.

State police said the boy was a passenger in a Ford Focus that had malfunctioned and had stopped in the left outbound lane between Edgewood and Squirrel Hill, according to Trib news partner WPXI-TV.

The Focus was hit from behind by someone driving a pickup truck, state police said.

The child was wearing a seat belt and taken to Children’s Hospital, where he later died. The driver and a 17-year-old passenger in the Ford Focus sustained minor injuries, WPXI reported.

The driver of the pickup was not injured. The incident remains under investigation.

Traffic was directed to exit at the Beechwood Boulevard ramp until lanes reopened later in the day.
