East End Brewing’s cider being launched in cans and keg versions

East End Brewing is launching cans and kegs of its hard cider.
Along Came A Cider is described as a semi-dry cider made from fresh apple juice from Kistaco Farms in Apollo.
The brewery has made the cider since 2009 but wasn’t legally allowed to can it because of its alcohol content, according to owner Scott Smith.
“Regulations on cider production at a brewery haven’t always been especially clear,” he said in a statement. “Since it’s made from pressed apple juice, the federal government considers cider to be wine.”
But, he said, if it’s under 7.5% alcohol by volume, the state considers it beer. East End’s cider has a 6.5% alcohol content.
“We’ve made some significant improvements to our cider-making process in the last year or two, and we’re really very pleased with the results,” Smith said. “Late last year, we decided it was the right time to get all the legal stuff sorted out, so we could start offering some cans and kegs to the outlets that already carry our beer.”

Starting Saturday, cases and six-packs of 12-ounce cans will be available at East End Brewing in Larimer, and Vecenie Distributing in Millvale will be distributing cans, as well as a limited amount of draft in quarter barrels.
