An expiring lease and concerns over the coronavirus pandemic combined to shutter a restaurant that has stood on Mt. Washington for a decade.

Shiloh Grill, one of three Harris Grill locations, announced Saturday that it will be closing on Tuesday. The other locations, in Shadyside and Downtown, are not affected.

Dana Fruzynski, an owner of the restaurants, said they were not able to come to terms for their lease at Shiloh, which expires at the end of the month. Adding what’s going on with the covid-19 pandemic, and, “It’s a good time for us to leave this location,” she said.

“With covid it’s just crazy with all the rules and regulations. It’s just hard to stay open,” she said. “We were deathly afraid someone would get sick or one of our employees would get sick.”

Fruzynski said the support they received from customers within just a couple of hours of announcing the closing on the restaurant’s Facebook page was overwhelming.

“We’re so humbled,” she said.

Harris Grill opened its first location in Shadyside in 2004. The location, on Ellsworth Avenue, remains closed as it is rebuilt after a fire in February, Fruzynski said.

The Downtown location, on Fourth Avenue and opened in 2017, is also closed, but Fruzynski said they expect it to open by next month.

Shiloh Grill had the same menu and concept as the other Harris Grill locations, but was given a different name to distinguish it, Fruzynski said. She said they will stick with the Harris Grill concept going forward.

Fruzynski said about 30 people work at the Shiloh Grill. She said they have been offered jobs at the other locations.
