The Gulf Tower is among Pittsburgh landmarks that will be turning red, white and blue Sunday as part of a National Day of Unity event remembering lives lost to the covid-19 pandemic and honoring those working on the front line to keep America advancing during the crisis.
One Oxford Centre, the Koppers Building, 20 Stanwix and the UPMC sign on the U.S. Steel Tower also are to be lit in patriotic colors by about 9 p.m.
Buildings in at least 41 U.S. cities will participate in the light-up, among them the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, the World Trade Center in New York City and the Bank of America Tower in Dallas.
The event is being organized by the Pittsburgh-based National Flag Foundation in cooperation with affiliates of Building Owners and Managers Association International and with support from the AFL-CIO.
The foundation also is encouraging Americans to fly the American flag on Sunday. In Pittsburgh, flags will be raised at McKnight Properties and Howmet Aerospace Corporate Center.
