Local artists inspired by Pittsburgh sights and everyday life is the theme for the Austral exhibition that opened Thursday at the Brew House Association in Pittsburgh’s South Side.

The exhibition is free and open to the public; donations accepted. It runs through Feb. 8.

The juried exhibition highlights the broad spectrum of the visual culture of the South Side and surrounding neighborhoods.

Contributing artists live in the Brew House lofts and surrounding neighborhood.

Leslie Rose served as juror for the exhibition. She is a curator attending Yale University for a Master of Arts degree in African Studies. Since receiving her bachelor’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh, Rose has been awarded the Fine Foundation Museum Professional Fellowship with the Andy Warhol Museum, the Hot Metal Bridge Fellowship with the University of Pittsburgh, and the Emerging Black Arts Leader Apprenticeship with Contemporary Craft.

The Brew House Association is a nonprofit art center located in the former Duquesne Brewing Co. facility.

Founded in the 1990s, BHA helps artists grow professionally and creatively by connecting them to audiences, professional resources and other arts organizations throughout the region and beyond, according to Natalie Sweet, program director.

BHA supports its artists also through its gallery, artist studios, and more.
