A gas leak Wednesday morning closed a street and caused buildings to be evacuated in Duquesne, the city’s police department said in a post on its Facebook page.

The leak started about 10:30 a.m., when a contractor struck a gas line near 46 S. Linden Street in the Regional Industrial Development Corporation’s City Center of Duquesne industrial park.

South Linden Street was closed because of the leak, police said, and emergency responders and workers from Peoples Gas Company were working to make repairs, police said.

“We’re working on repairing the line and getting everybody back in service,” Peoples spokeswoman Jackie Ziemianski said.

Eleven customers were without gas service Wednesday afternoon, although Ziemianski said the repairs were expected to be finished by late Wednesday afternoon.
