About 40 Peoples Gas customers remain without service in Moon, Crescent townships
Nearly all of the 1,000 Peoples Gas customers affected by a leak in Moon and Crescent townships on Saturday have their service restored.
“We have about 40 homes that we couldn’t get into,” said Jackie Ziemianski, spokeswoman with Peoples Gas said at about 8:30 p.m. Sunday. “Our crews are going back out and around to those homes. Everyone else is back in service.”
The outages were caused by a leak at a meter on Western Avenue in Moon Township. The leak was repaired Saturday afternoon, but gas company workers had to go to each customer’s home or business to relight furnaces and appliances.
The 40 customers still without gas around 8:30 p.m. weren’t home to let the crews inside, Ziemianski said. Anyone who still needs their service restore should call 1-800-400-4271.
“It’s better than we were anticipating,” she said. “The weather was on our side.”
On Sunday morning about 700 people still remained without natural gas because the overnight rain limited crews’ ability to get into houses, Ziemianski said.
More than 40 crews were out working on Sunday.
Warming centers have been set up at the Crescent fire hall, 79 McGovern Blvd., and the Moon Township Public Safety Building, 1000 Beaver Grade Road. They will be open until all customers regain service.
