A lifeguard pulled a man in his 60s from the bottom of the Highland Park swimming pool Friday afternoon, police said.

The man, whose name was not released, was in critical condition Friday night at UPMC Presbyterian hospital in the city’s Oakland neighborhood, Department of Public Safety spokeswoman Cara Cruz said.

Police, firefighters and medics responded to a 911 call about a possible drowning at the pool along Lake Drive shortly after 2:30 p.m.

First responders arrived just as a lifeguard was performing CPR on the man, who reportedly had stopped breathing, police said.

The initial investigation found that the man may have medical issues that led to the incident, according to Cruz.

“The man is believed to have had an underlying medical condition,” Cruz said. “No foul play is suspected.”
