Friday was a fortunate day – $125,000 to be exact – for a customer of the Morningside Market in Pittsburgh’s Morningside neighborhood.
The Pennsylvania Lottery reported that someone purchased a Cash 5 ticket at the market and hit Friday with the exact winning numbers 03-08-22-29-33.
It will pay $125,000, minus taxes, when the ticket is redeemed. Morningside Market gets $500 for selling the ticket, according to the Lottery.
Store owner Harish Dulani said he suspected that the winner might be a woman who played Cash 5 and came in yesterday asking for a claim form. She told him she won something but wouldn’t give details, he said.
“I had suspicions about her, but I don’t know,” Dulani said. “I’m really happy. Somebody finally hit from my store.”
Dulani said he’s owned the market with his wife for 20 years and has had two other big hits, but Friday’s was the biggest. A customer hit the Cash 5 for $50,000 a while back, and one other customer won $50,000 in 2016 on a $2 scratch-off ticket, he said.
More than 20,000 other people also won Cash 5 prizes in Friday’s drawing.
Lottery winners are identified only after prizes are claimed and tickets are validated. Cash 5 tickets expire one year from the drawing date. The lottery advises winners to sign the ticket, call the Lottery office at (800)692-7481 and file a claim at the nearest Lottery office.
It also advises players to always check their tickets and claim lower-amount prizes at a Lottery retailer.
