Pittsburgh-area activists and influencers will appear on the CNN original series “United Shades of America with W. Kamau Bell” at 10 p.m. Sunday.

The Emmy-winning series, which returns for its fifth season on Sunday, follows comedian and political provocateur W. Kamau Bell as he explores communities across America to understand the unique challenges they face, according to CNN.

Sunday’s episode, titled “Where Do We Even Start With White Supremacy?” is the first in an eight-part docuseries. In it, Bell will examine white supremacy and systemic racism in America.

Those featured include 1Hood Media founder and CEO Jasiri X, state Rep. Summer Lee, D-Swissvale, co-founder and editor-in-chief of VerySmartBrothas Damon Young, and Wasi Mohamed, former executive director of the Islamic Center of Pittsburgh.

The episode was filmed in January. After it airs, members of 1Hood Media will host a live Facebook Chat to share their experiences since the taping.

1Hood Media is a collective of socially conscious artists and activists who utilize art as a means of raising awareness about social justice matters affecting people around the world. The mission of 1Hood Media is to build liberated communities through art, education, and social justice, according to a press release.
