Fall Gallery Crawl features more than 30 stops in Pittsburgh’s cultural district

A Pop-Up Public Art Exhibit, “Los Trompos” or “spinning tops,” is an interactive public art works created by award-winning Mexican artists Héctor Esrawe and Ignacio Cadena at the Sept. 27 Fall Gallery Crawl throughout the Cultural District.

Welcome fall with the Gallery Crawl.

The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust’s quarterly event showcasing the city’s cultural district is from 5:30-10 p.m. Sept. 27.

There will be more than 30 stops at indoor and outdoor locations as well as public art places.

Highlights include visual arts such as “Boat Trip,” which investigates recent artist projects, installations, and videos related to the fast-disappearing Arctic Circle. At SPACE, there will be Mutant Media, an exhibition of American artists working with the do-it-yourself aesthetic.

Social Status is an exhibition showcasing multimedia by artists centered on fashion as art and curated by Tyler Calpin, a Pittsburgh-based photographer and Point Park University graduate.

“We are excited to present this fall Gallery Crawl with the help of our cultural district neighbors and crawl community partners showcasing an exceptional schedule of free happenings of visual art premieres, returning event ‘Art in the Alley,’ live performances, and other unique immersive activities for all to enjoy,” said Sarah Gilmer, programming manager of strategic partnerships and community engagement for the trust.

Terri Bell, vice president of strategic partnerships and community engagement for the trust said the Governor’s Awards for the Arts will occur simultaneously. The August Wilson African American Cultural Center will host the ceremony. Gov. Tom Wolf will present the awards.

The event is presented by UPMC and UPMC Health Plan.
