Pittsburgh extends overnight curfew another day

Pittsburgh will be under curfew again Monday night.

The city’s Public Safety department announced this morning via Twitter that the 8:30 p.m. curfew that had been in effect Saturday and Sunday nights will be extended another night.

The curfew lifts at 6 a.m. Tuesday.

Authorities announced the curfew Saturday in response to protests that spun out of control when pockets of rioters and looters caused damage to storefronts and other property in Downtown Pittsburgh.

Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto said Sunday night that at 71 businesses suffered damage. Two police vehicles were torched, and numerous injuries were reported, including to four police officers and three journalists.
