Pittsburgh moves to easier online permitting services
Pittsburgh’s move toward offering more permitting services online “couldn’t come at a better time,” Mayor Bill Peduto said .
The city’s OneStopPGH website was launched a year ago. It allows residents and businesses to apply, pay for and receive licenses and permits online. They also can upload development plans and track violation notices virtually.
The new services now available on the site include:
- Improved permits, including those for moving, dumpsters and sidewalk repair, that allow people to print no-parking signs from their home or office.
- Inspection reports and checklists for inspections for right-of-way permits.
- New “no parking” signs that list the permit number, permit type and permit holder, which make it easier for inspectors to clearly identify any unpermitted use or occupancy.
- Annual Fire Bureau permits including those for things like hazardous materials, special occupancy and other programs; and special permits for new hazardous material tank installations, fireworks shows and other special events.
- An improved code enforcement system that helps city departments to better notify people about enforcement actions and provide more transparent case updates, including court filings.
- The site offers an online chat feature for customer service.
“Pittsburghers have long wanted a more transparent and simple permitting process, and after lots of very hard work we’ve finally delivered one,” Peduto said. “Neighborhood development will now be much easier in Pittsburgh.”
The development of OneStopPGH was led by the city’s Department of Innovation and Performance with support from other departments, including the Department of Mobility and Infrastructure; Permits, Licenses and Inspections; Public Safety; and City Planning.
