Pittsburgh Police: Sheraden woman assaulted by pair who tried to steal her dog

A Sheraden woman was assaulted Friday afternoon by people who came to her door and attempted to steal her dog, initial reports indicate.

Pittsburgh Police arrested two suspects involved in the incident, Public Safety spokeswoman Cara Cruz said. A third adult accompanying the accused pair was not charged.

The woman who was injured, whose name was not released, told police that she was talking on the phone to a friend when three people showed up at the front door of her home on Zephyr Avenue, near Hammond Street.

They said they had lost their dog and insisted that the woman had it, police said.

“The victim denied it was theirs and refused to give up the dog,” Cruz said.

At least one of the people began hitting her, the woman told police. They struck her in the face, then took the dog using force, and headed back to their vehicle.

The woman began to chase after them. She later told police she saw that one of them had a gun.

Meanwhile, the friend whom she had been talking to heard the commotion and had dialed 911.

Police already in the area managed to stop the suspects’ vehicle less than 100 feet from the injured woman’s home, Cruz said.

Officers arrested a man and a woman, and each face multiple charges, Cruz said.

Police did not immediately identify them nor specify their charges.

“The third adult was not arrested and is believed to have been trying to break up the fight,” Cruz said.

Medics took the woman who was assaulted to a nearby hospital, where she was in stable condition.

She was treated for a cut above her eye, police said.
