A 20-year-old Indiana University of Pennsylvania student died in a jet ski accident while visiting Hilton Head in South Carolina, officials said Tuesday.

Ciara Eiriz was pronounced dead near a boat dock at Mackay Creek between the islands of Pickney and Hilton Head, Beaufort County Coroner’s officials told Trib news partner WPXI.

Eiriz graduated from Upper St. Clair in 2016, district spokeswoman Tina Vojtko confirmed.

“Our thoughts are with Ciara’s family and friends during this difficult time,” Vojtko said by email Tuesday night.

IUP spokeswoman Michelle Fryling told the Tribune-Review that Eiriz was enrolled at the college and known to be active in the Greek life community.

Officials said that two jet skis, both rentals, were involved in the crash.

No further details were immediately available.

Emergency responders remained at the area for several hours to investigate.
