A plane headed from Charlotte to Pittsburgh reported a possible mechanical issue with its nose landing gear before touching down safely Monday afternoon, officials said.

Pittsburgh International Airport spokesman Matt Neistein said officials treat any such reports “very seriously” and that the airport sent emergency units to the runway “out of an abundance of caution.”

American Airlines Flight 1237 landed at PIT at 2:41 p.m., about 26 minutes earlier than scheduled, an airlines spokesperson said by email.

Prior to touching down, “an indication in the cockpit reported a possible mechanical issue,” the airline said.

The airline did not elaborate on the potential problem flagged by the cockpit.

“Passengers deplaned normally at the gate, and our maintenance team will address the fault message,” the airline said.

Passengers were exiting the plane by about 2:50 p.m., Neistein said. The plane left Charlotte at 1:13 p.m. and was scheduled to arrive in Pittsburgh at 3:07 p.m.
