Police are investigating why more than two dozen gunshots were fired Friday in Pittsburgh’s Fairywood neighborhood, striking at least three parked cars.

No injuries were reported, police said.

Shortly before 6 p.m., Pittsburgh Zone 1 police officers responded to a ShotSpotter notification near West Prospect Avenue and Broadhead Fording Road, Department of Public Safety spokeswoman Alicia George said.

The initial investigation determined that about 26 shots had been fired in the 500 block of West Prospect Avenue, George said.

Stray bullets hit three parked vehicles. Detectives found multiple shell casings in the area, George said.

“There were no victims and no reported injuries in connection with this incident,” George said. “The shooting remains under investigation.”

Police did not provide information about possible suspects.

No further details were available.

Officials urged anyone with information to call police at 412-323-7201. Tips can remain anonymous.
