A 59-year-old man died Thursday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash in White Oak, Allegheny County Police said.
The county Medical Examiner’s office identified the victim as Donald Pivirotto, 59, of North Huntingdon.
Police responded to the crash shortly before 4 p.m. in the 3000 block of Jacks Run Road.
Medics arrived to find Pivirotto trapped inside a Nissan Sentry.
“Paramedics attempted life-saving measures, but the victim died at the scene,” Lt. Venerando Costa said.
County detectives and collision reconstruction teams still are evaluating what caused the crash.
According to the initial investigation, a 2007 Isuzu box truck driven by a 27-year-old woman was traveling east on Jacks Run Road.
“The Isuzu driver attempted to avoid striking a vehicle that was making a left turn in front of her, and swerved into the westbound traffic lane striking the Nissan head on,” Costa said. “At this time, it is unclear if the Isuzu driver was distracted or if the vehicle in front of her stopped suddenly.”
The investigation’s findings will be sent to the Allegheny County District Attorney’s Office to decide whether any charges are warranted.
Officials asked anyone with information about the incident to call the county police tipline 1-833-ALL-TIPS. Callers can remain anonymous.
