Pittsburgh police on Monday released surveillance video showing a man they are searching for in connection with an alleged sexual assault and burglary in Oakland.

Police are hopeful someone can provide more information about the suspect, a 6-foot-tall man believed to be in his early 20s.

“It’s a serious investigation,” Pittsburgh police Major Crimes Unit Cmdr. Victor Joseph said.

The victim told police that a man she didn’t know entered her residence in the 200 block of Oakland Avenue through a back door while she was sleeping and attempted to sexually assault her, University of Pittsburgh police said in a statement.

“A brief struggle ensued, and the actor then exited the residence through the rear door and fled on foot northbound on Oakland Avenue, towards Sennott Street,” university police said in a statement Monday night.

Video footage taken early Friday shows a man believed to be in his early 20s walking between two buildings and then up a flight of wooden stairs attached to the side of one of the buildings.

The man, whom university police identified as the suspect, was wearing a black T-shirt, camouflage shorts and black boots. Police described him as about 6 feet tall with an athletic build and short hair.

The video, provided to police by a person they didn’t identify, is timestamped 4:19 a.m. Friday and was taken in the general area where the assault happened, Joseph said.

Police earlier released still images of the same man.
