The employee giving campaign hosted by St. Margaret Foundation drew record-breaking results this year, topping $129,000 to help patients in need.
President Mary Lee Gannon said the total reaffirms that UPMC St. Margaret employees are confident that the foundation makes a meaningful difference.
“They see first-hand the tragedies our patients suffer and the triumph,” Gannon said. “We are honored by the employees’ support.”
The campaign ended with 560 hospital staffers giving $129,685 to “fill in the gaps” for people struggling with challenges, Gannon said.
It is the largest amount in hospital history.
Money will be used to meet three strategic priorities that include patient access, experience and education.
Employees chose among seven funds to donate to, Gannon said. Among them were areas of greatest need, The Bed Fund for under-resourced patients, Oncology and The Family Health Center Fund.
More than 100 employees were named to the Hour-a-Month Society, meaning they donated an hour of pay to their favorite cause.
Gannon said the most support was given to the areas of greatest need which pays for things like transportation to chemotherapy appointments, medication, flu shots, health screenings and family sleep chairs at the hospital near Aspinwall.
