Police say a 15-year-old boy driving a stolen car led police on a chase Friday morning that ended when he crashed into an SUV in Richland Township, injuring its elderly driver.
The boy and a 64-year-old woman, who was one of two occupants in the SUV, were both listed in stable condition at an unnamed hospital, according to Allegheny County Police.
The incident began at about 9:40 a.m., as the Northern Regional Police Department was called to help a Middlesex Township officer, who was following the stolen Kia Forte into Allegheny County. The car was reported stolen less than 15 minutes earlier by Butler Township police.
The Middlesex officer stopped the car at Dickey Road, but the boy refused to obey commands and drove away, swerving around the officer’s vehicle.
Police said the officer fired about four shots into the Kia’s rear tire in an attempt to disable it, but it headed south on Route 8.
A police pursuit of less than a mile ended when the Kia collided with a Toyota Highlander at the intersection of Route 910. The pursuing Middlesex officer had his siren and lights activated, county police said.
Additional details weren’t immediately available. County police are investigating.
