A Swissvale man pleaded guilty to scheming to sell crack cocaine and heroin and illegally having a gun, federal prosecutors said Friday.

Kevin Darwin-Sewell, 34, was arrested after getting caught with heroin and cocaine base, or “crack,” in July 2016, U.S. Attorney Scott W. Brady said.

Officials also found him carrying a .40-caliber Smith & Wesson handgun.

Because of prior felony convictions, Darwin-Sewell had been prohibited from possessing a gun.

Wilkinsburg and Pittsburgh police conducted the investigation with help from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Brady said. Assistant U.S. Attorney Gregory C. Melucci prosecuted the case.

With his guilty plea, Darwin-Sewell was convicted this week on two charges: possession with intent to distribute the street drugs, and possessing a gun as a felon.

Per sentencing guidelines, Darwin-Sewell could face a possible sentence of not less than 15 years in prison and a maximum sentence of up to life in prison. He could be fined by up to $2.25 million.

U.S. District Judge Nora Barry Fischer scheduled his sentencing for Aug. 6.
