WPXI's Damany Lewis moving on to Charlotte

After almost five years in Pittsburgh, WPXI reporter Damany Lewis is headed south.

The veteran news man posted the announcement on Facebook on Saturday morning stating that he will become a Monday through Friday anchor for WSOC, an ABC affiliate in Charlotte, N.C.

It wasn’t immediately clear when his last day will be at WPXI.

In the note, Lewis described the move as a “TREMENDOUS career opportunity which will also be a EXCEPTIONAL family move.”

Lewis and his wife have two children, according to his profile on WPXI’s website.

He added that the Lewis family is “saddened” to leave their lives behind in Pittsburgh.

“We can honestly say the journey through Pittsburgh has been fulling beyond our hearts content and it’s an experience we will always cherish and embrace,” the note concluded.

Lewis, who is a Chicago native — the South Side, as he likes to point out — has been a journeyman in the business, starting his career in Champaign, Ill. before making stops in Tallahassee, Fla., Jacksonville, Fla., Winston Salem, N.C., Sacramento, Calif. and Pittsburgh.

He accumulated 10 years of broadcast experience before joining WPXI, according to the profile.

While at WPXI, he traveled to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil to cover the 2016 Summer Olympic Games.

Lewis is an alumnus of the historically black institution Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University, which is also known as Florida A&M or FAMU.

He also served as a member of Pittsburgh Black Media Federation.
