Kuhn’s Market in Pittsburgh’s Banksville neighborhood was closed after an Allegheny County health inspector on Friday discovered an active sewage backup.

The sewage backup was discovered in areas including the main kitchen and food storage areas, according to the health department’s food safety assessment report.

There also was evidence of prior sewage backups in the deli section, the report said.

The inspector determined the sewage had been “improperly cleaned,” as there was residual chlorine in stagnant water present in those areas.

Employees were “engaging in business as usual” during the sewage backup, the health report said.

The report indicated a re-inspection is scheduled for Monday. It was not immediately clear when the store would reopen.
