A North Side school was locked down briefly Tuesday morning after at least 11 shots were fired outside school grounds, authorities said.

Perry Traditional Academy, a high school in the Pittsburgh’s Perry North neighborhood, was in “secure status” at about 10 a.m., two hours after a juvenile boy was targeted — but not injured — in the shooting, authorities said.

The school was placed in lockdown “for a short period,” Pittsburgh Public Schools spokeswoman Ebony Pugh told TribLive.

Both secure and lockdown statuses bar outsiders from coming inside the school or on school grounds, Pugh said.

The targeted boy, who authorities did not name, “was largely uncooperative with police,” but officials are reviewing cameras near the Perrysville Avenue school to identify the shooter or shooters, Pittsburgh police spokeswoman Emily Bourne said.

Police responded to the school for an 11-round ShotSpotter just after 8 a.m., Bourne said.

No injuries were reported, police and school officials said. Bullets did damage the school, however, breaking two windows and damaging the building’s brick work.

Police are still on scene and the investigation is ongoing, Bourne said. There is no ongoing risk to students at this time, she said.
