An 18-year-old Pittsburgh resident was arrested and charged with robbing a car at gunpoint on Thursday.

Mt. Oliver police responded to the 200 block of Rustic Avenue shortly before midnight on Thursday for a report of an armed robbery. They found an uninjured 30-year-old male victim at the scene, who said his gray Mazda 6 sedan was stolen by a group of four young males, who ordered him out of the car at gunpoint.

About five hours later, the stolen car was involved in a crash around 4:30 a.m. Friday morning, on the 2400 block of Perrysville Avenue on Pittsburgh’s North Side.

Following the crash, multiple juveniles arrived at area hospitals with varying injuries. Investigating detectives learned that Tyler Hutchinson, 18, of Pittsburgh’s Corliss neighborhood, was involved in the robbery. They obtained a warrant for his arrest.

He was taken into custody on Friday night in Pittsburgh’s Sheraden neighborhood and charged with robbery of a motor vehicle, theft, receiving stolen property, corruption of minors, reckless endangerment and criminal conspiracy, according to police.

Detectives are working with the county District Attorney’s office to determine the culpability of the other juvenile suspects, who will be referred to the juvenile justice system.
