Pittsburgh to open warming centers as frigid temperatures loom
As Pittsburgh prepares to welcome frigid temperatures and icy winds Tuesday, the city will open six warming centers to the community.
The city’s parks and recreation department will provide the warming centers from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday.
They are located at 1555 Broadway Avenue in Beechview, 3515 McClure Avenue in Brighton Heights, 745 Greenfield Avenue in Greenfield, 7321 Frankstown Road in Homewood, 720 Sherwood Avenue in Sheraden and at the intersection of 12th and Bingham streets in South Side.

Eight of the city’s recreation centers — Ammon, Arlington, Brookline, Jefferson, Magee, Ormsby, Paulson and Warrington — and five senior centers will also be open throughout the day.
Pittsburgh typically activates its warming centers when the forecast predicts highs of 20 degrees or lower. The Pittsburgh region is expected to see Tuesday a high of 21 degrees, a low of 9 and a sub-zero wind chill, according to the National Weather Service.
