Beginning Saturday, Pittsburgh will resume street sweeping with parking enforcement.

The city’s Department of Public Works this week announced they will coordinate with the Pittsburgh Parking Authority to enforce the annual street sweeping campaign.

During the early days of the covid-19 pandemic, the city made street sweeping parking accommodations for residents and did not ticket vehicles. After a two-year hiatus, enforcement returned in 2022, and officials said there will be no postponements of fines in enforcing parking regulations this year.

“During the pandemic, when we had higher volumes of parked vehicles, there was an increase in street litter as well as garbage in our storm water system,” Director of the Department of Public Works Chris Hornstein said. “Having open roads allows our crews to better clean Pittsburgh’s streets and prevents additional waste from entering the system.”

Street sweepers focus on neighborhoods Monday through Thursday. On Fridays, they are typically assigned to the main corridors and business districts.

Posted signs in each neighborhood list which days street cleaning is performed there.

The street sweeping season will run from April 1 through November 30.
