A pedestrian struck and killed Monday by a Pittsburgh Regional Transit bus lived just feet from where she was hit, a transit agency spokesman told TribLive Wednesday.
The transit agency bus operating on the 6 Spring Hill route hit Dana Fountain, 50, of the city’s Spring Hill neighborhood, near the intersection of Rhine and Buente streets around 12:15 p.m. Monday, Adam Brandolph, the spokesman, said.
Fountain was unresponsive when paramedics arrived on the scene, Brandolph said. First responders performed CPR before rushing her to Allegheny General Hospital.
She died there less than 30 minutes later.
Brandolph on Wednesday said Fountain lived at Three Rivers Manor, a 198-unit apartment complex that sits “about 200 feet” from where the accident occurred. A bus stop is across the street from the apartments.
Management for Three Rivers Manor did not respond Wednesday to a phone call seeking comment.
The driver of the bus involved in the crash, who Brandolph declined to name, has been placed on paid leave.
The outcome of a drug and alcohol test, which Brandolph said is standard protocol, will determine if the driver can return to work.
Brandolph said the driver has been working for the public transit agency for about eight years.
It is unclear how many passengers were on board at the time of the accident. Brandolph said no passenger injuries were reported.
The bus later was towed from the scene to the transit agency’s facility in Ross.
