4 elected to Verona council
Verona Council candidates Vince Flotta, Patricia Lynn Hredzak-Showalter, Rhoda Worf and Ray Suchevich were leading in a five-person race for four, four-year seats, according to unofficial returns from the Allegheny County Office of Elections.
A little more than 66 percent of precincts were reported online as of Nov. 3.
Flotta, Hredzak-Showalter and Worf were on both party ballots. They had 285, 282 and 255 votes, respectively, at the time.
Suchevich, a Republican incumbent, had 252 votes.
Council president Nancy Carpenter, a Democrat incumbent, was last with 239 votes. There were 25 write-ins.
Allegheny County Spokesperson Amie Downs said situations in which online numbers are not fully updated following election day happen every election.
“All of the precincts have reported,” Downs said via email Nov. 3. “However, when the judges of elections close the machines, sometimes they do so with the thumb drive still inside. It is sealed and locked and if they do not realize before that, they are unable to remove them.
“Therefore we have to wait until the machines return to the warehouse. All of the counting was complete and all of the precincts reported in. The numbers and additional information will be updated through the return board process. The information on the website are unofficial results. It is the return board process which actually counts, audits and reconciles the votes.
“They’ll be done in order. I don’t know if they plan to update the site on a daily basis but we will provide an overview on Friday (Nov. 5, when the Return Board is sworn in). The updates are being provided on the website.”
