The Holiday Park Volunteer Fire Department will hold its fifth annual Fire Camp & Junior Fire Academy this summer.
Registration for the camp, held from June 19-23, opened Feb. 13 and closes May 15. The camp is limited to 32 participants.
The weeklong camp is for youth ages 14 to 17 who are interested in emergency services fields as careers or opportunities for volunteerism. Instructors from fire, emergency medical services, and law enforcement provide participants with a look into their worlds and a sample of what it’s like to be in them.
The $50 fee includes lunch and snacks each day, transportation to off-site training centers, two T-shirts and a camp bag, and camp gear and supplies.
Camp activities include fire ground operations; self-contained breathing apparatus operations, basic vehicle rescue, rapid intervention team operations, fire behavior and chemistry, ropes and riggings, search and rescue, obstacle course, water rescue operations, emergency medical aid, firefighter-down CPR, arson investigations, and team building.
Certifications earned at the camp include CPR; fire dynamics, behavior, and safety and extinguishers; first aid; medical helicopter landing zone operations; and wilderness rescue.
For an application packet, send an email to Chief James Sims at chief@holidayparkvfd.org or stop by the fire station, 415 Old Abers Creek Road, between 6 and 10 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. The department can be reached at 724-327-3456.
