AARP

Plum AARP will hold its monthly meeting on Oct. 11 at Unity Community Church, 215 Unity Trestle Road, beginning at noon. Free hot dogs will be served with chips, cake and beverage. The entertainment for the meeting will be Quatrewaul, a barbershop quartet. Information about the Christmas party will be announced, and tickets will be sold.

Plum AARP is a social organization open to residents of Penn Hills, Monroeville, Oakmont and surrounding areas. Newcomers are welcome at the monthly meetings, always held on the second Tuesday of the month (except for July) at noon at Unity Community Church. AARP has a program/entertainment every month, and hosts a Christmas party, a spring luncheon, and an August social, as well as a hot dog lunch. Dues are only $10 per year. Bereavement Doulas fundraiser

Pittsburgh Bereavement Doulas will host a fundraiser, Light & Unite, Oct. 15 at the Villa at Springwood in Verona. The event will include a dinner buffet, dessert, and music by Pure Harmony Strings. There will also be a lotus candle lighting as part of the International Wave of Light, a world-wide candle-lighting and remembrance ceremony. Women’s Business Network

Line dancing in Oakmont

Join Riverview Community Action Corp., the senior center in Oakmont, for line dancing every Friday morning starting Oct. 7.

Beginners Line Dancing starts at 9:15, followed by a class for more experienced dancers at 10 o’clock at the Riverside Park Pavilion. Cost is $1 per class. No registration is necessary.

In cases of inclement weather, classes will be held at RCAC, 501 Second St.

‘Books and Brews’

Plum Borough Community Library and the Brewery at Luciano’s will present “Books and Brews” at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 13 at the library, 445 Center-New Texas Road.

Brewer John Luciano will explain the process of making beer and serve samples from the Monroeville restaurant.

The event is for guests 21 and older. Register at https://plumlibrary.org. Space is limited.

Property appeal education forum

Allegheny County Controller Corey O’Connor will host a community town hall to share information and resources with residents on the property appeals process. The event is scheduled for 6 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 11 at Penn Hills Library. 1037 Stotler Road.

Dungeons and Dragons

Lower Valley Athletic Foundation will host an interactive Dungeons and Dragons event at 4 p.m. Oct. 23 at the Verona Fire Hall, 465 Parker St.

Participants are encouraged to dress up as medieval characters. They will go through a story with live actors.

Cost is $30 per player. Food and drinks will be available for purchase.

Deadline to register is Oct. 16. Attendees can sign up through the LVAF Facebook page.

Hydrant flushing scheduled

Plum Municipal Authority will conduct its hydrant flushing program through Oct. 21.

No work will be done on weekends. Customers may experience low pressure and should test water before doing laundry or drawing large quantities of water because it may be discolored. Water color usually clears within a few hours.

Trunk or Treat

A-Amy’s Notary is sponsoring a free Trunk or Treat for the community from 2 to 5 p.m. Oct. 22 in the parking lot at 140 Sandune Drive, Plum.

There will be games, music and a costume contest.
